WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG

MidwiferywithMartha

If I’m being honest, I didn’t fall in love with nursing from the beginning. In fact, for a long time, I was simply showing up, not because I wanted to but because l just had to.

Three years into my journey, midwifery found me in a way I can’t fully put into words. Because the first time I stepped into maternity care, I realised this wasn’t just a job. It was a calling. A place where you witness women at their strongest, most vulnerable, most beautiful. A place where life begins. A place where a midwife can make a woman feel safe, heard, respected, and protected during the most intense moment of her life. Suddenly, nursing wasn’t just tasks and procedures, it became connection, presence, and purpose.

Midwifery taught me to see the strength of women, the miracle of life, and the soft power of being the calm in someone’s storm. It brought out qualities in me I didn’t know I had, patience, confidence, gentleness, and a deep sense of calling.

That’s when I realised:

This is where I belong.

This is where I’m meant to grow.

This is what I’m called for.

And that is exactly why I started Midwifery With Martha.

1. To share my experiences as a student midwife

My journey hasn’t been perfect. I struggled, I learned, I grew, and I’m still learning every day. I had my ups and downs, moments were I felt the lack of purpose.

Sharing my experience is my way of helping another student feel less alone, less scared, and more confident in who she’s becoming.

2. To make notes on topics i once struggled with 📚

There were topics that made me stressed, confused, and overwhelmed. But I was blessed to be taught by nurses who taught gently, nurses who made learning feel safe, clear, and easy.

Because of them, the things that once confused me now make sense.

Now I want my notes to do the same for someone else, simple, practical, and easy to understand.

3. To pass on the knowledge and tips that brought me where I am today

Everything I know today comes from a combination of ward experience, mistakes, growth, and hard work. I don’t want to keep that knowledge to myself. If something helped me, guided me, or saved me… I want it to help someone else too. If a tip made clinicals easier for me, I want another student to feel that relief. If a lesson made me a better midwife, I want to pass it on.

Midwifery didn’t just teach me how to deliver babies, it taught me how to show up for women, how to trust myself, and how to embrace my calling.

Midwifery With Martha is my heart poured into words.

It is where I grow, and where I hope to help others grow too.

This is only the beginning 💗✨
