Dear First Time Mom

Here’s What No One Tells You About Pregnancy.

Becoming a mother for the first time is exciting but also confusing, emotional, and sometimes scary. As a student nurse working with pregnant women, I see many first-time moms worrying about things that are actually normal. Your body changes, your emotions change, and suddenly Google becomes your best friend. Not that you shouldn't trust google just allow me to make it simple for you in this post.

1. Your Body Will Feel Different (And That’s Normal)

Pregnancy is a full-body experience. You might feel tired all the time, even if you did nothing. You may feel nauseous, especially in the mornings. Your back can hurt, your breasts become sore, and you might run to the toilet every five minutes.

Many first-time moms think something is wrong with them. But most of these changes happen because of hormones and your body adjusting to grow a baby. It does not mean you are weak it means your body is working overtime to create life.

2. Your Emotions Might Be All Over the Place

One minute you’re happy. The next minute you want to cry. Sometimes for no reason.

Hormones in pregnancy affect not only your body but also your feelings. You might feel:

  • scared

  • emotional

  • irritated

  • overly sensitive

This does not make you dramatic. It makes you human. You are going through a big life change, and your mind is trying to adjust just like your body.

4. Not Feeling “Motherly” Immediately Is Okay

Some women fall in love with their baby the moment they see the positive test. Others take time to connect and that is completely normal. You are not a bad mother if you feel unsure, scared, or disconnected at first. Bonding can grow slowly. It's not overnight, Sometimes it builds day by day.

5. You Don’t Have to Know Everything

Many first-time moms feel pressure to “do pregnancy perfectly.” But there is no perfect. You will learn as you go. Always attend your visits and follow ups, Ask questions. Listen to your healthcare providers. Take care of yourself.

Pregnancy is not about being perfect, it’s about learning, growing, and preparing to welcome your baby

You are not dramatic.
You are not weak.

You are becoming a mother for the first time, and that is a big, brave, beautiful journey. 💛
